In January 2010, the NSW Government declared the proposed upgrade of Marrickville Metro a major project.
Previously this meant the project application would be determined by the NSW Minister for Planning, under Part 3A of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act (EP&A Act) 1979, NSW. However, in June 2011 Part 3A of the EP&A Act 1979 was repealed.
Marrickville Metro will now be assessed by the NSW Planning Assessment Commission (PAC). The PAC is an independent panel responsible for the assessment (of major developments of State significance) delegated by the Department of Planning and Infrastructure (DP&I) Minister.
After consulting with the community last year, Marrickville Metro lodged significantly reduced plans with the NSW DP&I. The DP&I has now completed an assessment report and recommendation for the PAC’s consideration.
Next steps:
- The PAC will hold a Commission Meeting as part of standard process for assessment. This meeting is open to the public and provides members of the community an opportunity to make comment on the DP&I recommendation. The meeting will be held on Monday, 13 February 2012, from 1:00pm – 8:00pm, at Petersham RSL, 7 Regent Street Petersham.
- Following the public meeting the PAC will determine the application.
